In
How Healing Works, Jonas, who is trained in conventional medicine,
but also practices holistic medicine, posits that 80 percent of
healing can be attributed to the mind-body connection and other
naturally occurring processes. Where this is especially so is in
relation to chronic diseases. Jonas clearly and simply explains how
each of us can use our inherent healing capacity to get well and stay
well. Backed by evidence and stories of patients with chronic
illnesses who have healed, this remarkable book teaches us how we can
tap into the 4 dimensions of healing (body, behavior, social, and
spirit) to combat and prevent chronic disease. Simple line
illustrations do a good job of communicating stats and other lessons
in a straightforward fashion, while stories from Jonas's practice and
studies also illustrate his method for helping people get well and
stay well after minor and major medical events. I especially liked
the appendix on how to work with your doctor to integrate health
promotion with traditional medical care and how to start your healing
journey.
