How Healing Works by Wayne Jonas MD

Dr. Jonas explains the biology of healing and the science behind the discovery that 80 percent of healing can be attributed to the mind-body connection and other naturally occurring processes. Jonas details how the healing process works and what we can do to facilitate our own innate ability to heal. Dr. Jonas’s advice will change how we consume health care, enabling us to be more in control of our recovery and lasting wellness. Simple line illustrations communicate statistics and take-aways in a memorable way. Stories from Dr. Jonas’s practice and studies further illustrate his method for helping people get well and stay well after minor and major medical events.

In How Healing Works, Jonas, who is trained in conventional medicine, but also practices holistic medicine, posits that 80 percent of healing can be attributed to the mind-body connection and other naturally occurring processes. Where this is especially so is in relation to chronic diseases. Jonas clearly and simply explains how each of us can use our inherent healing capacity to get well and stay well. Backed by evidence and stories of patients with chronic illnesses who have healed, this remarkable book teaches us how we can tap into the 4 dimensions of healing (body, behavior, social, and spirit) to combat and prevent chronic disease. Simple line illustrations do a good job of communicating stats and other lessons in a straightforward fashion, while stories from Jonas's practice and studies also illustrate his method for helping people get well and stay well after minor and major medical events. I especially liked the appendix on how to work with your doctor to integrate health promotion with traditional medical care and how to start your healing journey.

I received this book from Blogging for books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.
